ITM Education – Providing the Next Generation!

BA (Hons) in International Travel Management - University of Brighton

The University of Brighton’s BA (Hons) programme in International Travel Management is the most established and internationally recognised travel industry-specific course available. Academic understanding of key elements of the travel industry combined with management teaching ensures graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills required for success in this dynamic and competitive sector.

ITM involvement

The BA (Hons) in International Travel Management is the only degree of its kind to be endorsed by the Institute of Travel and Meetings.

Students choosing to follow the ITM accredited route will need to undertake the Business Travel Module in year 2 and have the option to take a 48 week internship from July. The Honours element of their degree is dependent upon successful completion of the project. Students will also become ITM graduates and take advantage of the membership benefits available to them.

The internship

During their period of work experience students would be expected to gain practical experience relevant to business travel and be given the opportunity to make a real contribution to the employing organisation. Students are expected to discuss their aims and objectives for the internship with individual employers and required to compile a final year project based on their placement. Each student is assigned an individual supervising tutor from the University who is responsible for maintaining contact with both the student and employer during the internship year. We do ask that the employing organisation allocate a mentor to the student who would ensure the student is given a full induction into the workplace and would be available to give help and advice during the employment period. When returning from work experience, students will give presentations on their experiences.

Employers are welcome to meet with students on campus for recruitment presentations and interviews. Students are also available for interview at the Placement Providerʼs premises as required. Students do not receive funding from their Education Authority or the University during this period and we therefore ask that they be paid a salary upon which they can afford to support themselves.

"Through completion of my international travel management degree, I was able to immerse myself and widen my knowledge
in business travel through the accreditation of the ITM. I was able to complete a placement in the global leading gds,
Amadeus, as an account manager, where I conducted a placement project in CRM in business travel. With the ITM supporting
my studies, I was able to conduct excellent research with a large corporate in the pharmaceutical industry, to benefit my
studies achieving a first. Through the growing support and opportunities the ITM has given me, I have also been able to
grasp valuable networking opportunities. Thank you to the University of Brighton, ITM and organisations who continue to
support undergraduates, for giving me the best start and incites into the business travel industry."
